Minnesota is seeing a reduction in the number of new cases of MPX in the state. There were 11 new cases in the last ten days. Compared to Sept 17-27, 2021 with 19 new cases, or August 16-26 with 34 new cases.
The future of MPX in the United States in cases is slowing with disparities among African-American men becoming infected and dying from MPX. As reported on NPR on Oct 27, 2022, that death from MPX is rare those that have died have mainly been African-American men with other medical issues.
According to CDC, MPX is here to stay in the US, we will not see an epidemic like COVID but we must be prepared when, not if, cases pop out in the general public (school, daycare, or nursing home). The Minneapolis MPX Taskforce work continues to address disparities in access to vaccination, testing, and treatment. We are hosting and coordinating other MPX vaccination through the Twin Cities,
If you’re looking for places for MPX vaccinations there are several national vaccination locators. There are also Vaccination Events also called Pop-up clinics which are not listed because they’re usually not repeating. The Minnesota Department of Health will be forwarding dates of pop-up clinics to us and we’ll list them on our Vaccine Location (Clinics or Vaccination Events) page. There are still people eligible for MPX vaccination who haven’t yet gotten their stick. Our mission is to help all eligible for MPX vaccination find a location within their community or culture.
